Sellas Tetteh who led Ghana to an historic U20 World Cup triumph in 2009 has tipped Nigeria and Cameroon to shine in Colombia.

“Africa’s top two teams in Colombia will be Nigeria and Cameroon,” predicted Tetteh, now coach of Rwanda.

“They have the track record and the character, but that is not to say that the other teams, Egypt and Mali, will also not do well.”

The Ghana Satellites won the 2009 African Youth Championship and then became the first African side to lift the FIFA U20 World Cup in Cairo, Egypt, after a penalty shootout win over Brazil.

Nigeria beat Cameroon 3-2 in a thrilling AYC final in South Africa in May and both teams will begin World Cup action on Sunday.

The Flying Eagles battle Guatemala, while Cameroon tackle New Zealand.

Nigeria coach John Obuh rated highly the chances of all four African teams in Colombia after a "very tough" African Youth Championship.

However, Obuh has warned against overconfidence by his team.

“I pray against overconfidence because the confidence in the team is so high. But we have to play to win as you cannot win without playing,” Obuh cautioned ahead of Sunday’s Group D opener in Armenia.
