Seychelles official to handle 2008 CAN opener

Eddy Maillet has been named as center referee for Sunday’s opening game of the 2008 African Cup of Nations.

The Seychelles official would get the tournament underway as host, Ghana play Guinea in the tournament’s first game at the Ohene Djan Stadium at 17:00GMT.

He would assisted on the lines by Rwanda's Celestin Ntangungira and Menkouande Evarist of Cameroon.

Haimoudi Djamel of Algeria is the fourth official while South Africa's 2010 World Cup organising committee official, Danny Jordan is the match commissioner.

Maillet is one of the sixteen selected central referees for the competition which starts on January 20 and runs till February 10 in four hosting cities.

Tournament organizers, the Confederation of African Football – CAF, called up 32 match officials for the tournament out of which sixteen are assistant referees.

The list of match officials includes two referees from the Asia.
