Hope for aspiring Ivorian footballers as Skillnet meets Ghana Embassy officials in Ivory Coast

One year on from the successful 2013 scouting event at the Lizzy Sports Complex in Accra, Skillnet Sports Management has expanded its reach to young football talents by participating in an event staged in Ivory Coast in March.

Organized by Skillnet’s Ivory Coast-based partner and scout Danny Zoro, it gathered eight clubs with Sportslife FC representing Ghana. Trials to Spain and Denmark were at stake for the players – aged between 14 and 18 – involved.

Skillnet directors, Raymond Owusu and William Owusu, met with officials of the Ghana Embassy in Abidjan to promote the “Soccer for Education” initiative. They were received by Assitant Consulaire Isaac Agbemadon who endorsed the project.

Nearly 180 teenagers featured in the scouting camp – only 20% of which are students. Reflecting on this negative statistic, Raymond Owusu stressed:

“We are advising them to combine education with soccer because not all of them can turn into professional players. They must understand that there is life after a football career and career-ending injuries can happen at any time.”
