Skyy FC on Sunday 5th November beat Sefwi All Stars 3 goals to 2 in the grand final of Western Region Football Association Super Middle League Tournament at Essipon Sports Stadium.

This feat earned the price of Wassa East a promotional ticket to participate in the upcoming 2018 GFA Division One League.

Skyy FC winger Ike won most valuable player of the tournament and Alex Annim who hit hat trick in the grand final match won the Golden boot award with six goals in the super middle league.

Most remarkably the success of Skyy FC is written in gold in the annals of Ghana Football as the first team to go through a complete season in division two with clean unbeaten record even including MTN FA Cup qualifiers, made their debut in the Sub Middle league this year beating Kassel FC 4:2, Arsenal FC 2:0 and fielding second team to hold Rails Stars 1:1 in a thrilling match.

Supporters of Sekondi Eleven Wise rooted for Rails Stars to qualify to Division One with strategic motive of a RailWise team to save Sekondi Eleven Wise playing in second division soccer next year.

Skyy FC was not among the top teams tipped to go beyond the sub-middle leagues for the super league given pedigree of teams like good old in-form Prestea Mines Stars, experienced Sammin FC, Esikado based Academy side Rails Stars, Efiekuma based Bis Paradise FC, Sefwi All Stars, and Tarkwa based Achiesu FC.

The sub middle league did not produce major upsets as most of the top teams with the exception of Ajax FC made it to the twelve team Super Middle League Tournament.

The 2017 Super Middle league produced major upsets with Sefwi Insha Allahu qualifying to semi finals ahead of Prestea Mines Stars and Rail Stars to meet fellow Sefwi side - Sefwi All Stars who had also accounted for Sammin FC and Nzema Tanoe Akuba FC.

Notwithstanding outstanding performances put up by Skyy FC throughout the season and in the sub-middle league and beating Adjuafoman FC 3:2 and Junior Anneff 2:0, Bis Paradise was tipped to beat Skyy FC handsomely at Essipon.

The hype for this match was so intense that it befitted the grand final instead of a semi-final.

This match attracted the highest spectators of the super middle league tournament even though it was played on a Friday afternoon. Supporters of Bis Paradise charged the pre-match atmosphere with their brass band music and vociferous chants drowning Skyy FC supporters.

But when the referee whistled for the start of the match, the absolute dominance of Skyy FC silenced the Bis Paradise Supporters, as only Skyy FC Jama Songs could be heard. The early goal and many near misses by Skyy FC shocked even the Skyy FC supporters.

The match was balanced in the second half. With under five minutes to the end of this encounter confusion nearly broke when the Referee hesitated in calling for the equalizer for Bis Paradise until Assistant Referee manning the lines signalled that the entire circumference of the ball did cross Skyy FC goal line.

Disciplined Skyy FC players, Officials and Supporters did not protest. The game was pushed to penalty shootout. Skyy FC Goalkeeper Solomon Nimo made his name by saving three spot-kicks to ensure Skyy FC reached the finals with a 3:2 win.

Skyy FC Club President removed his white shirt to reveal Skyy FC Champions T shirt Shirt. The entire players and Officials also changed into Champions shirts to begin the celebration.

History of Skyy FC

In 2016, the CEO of Skyy Media Group acquired 100% ownership of a struggling division two team Mighty Royals based in Daboase. After barely beating relegation in 2016, the reformation of the teams started with a preseason tour of Wassa East to assemble 28 young soccer talents and two young coaches for training. Office secretariat was established at Daboase and board inaugurated to support management to steer the affairs of the team.
