Ghana winger Solomon Asante has confirmed interest from South African club Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 23-year-old has caught the eye of the Brazilians following his sustained impressive displays for TP Mazembe.

Asante played for Ghana at the 2013 Nations Cup on the back of an impressive debut campaign in the CAF Champions League while with Berekum Chelsea.

Officials of Sundowns are reported to have met TP Mazembe’s West African representative Oduro Sarfo over the move – a report denied by Mazembe official.

But in the new twist to the transfer story, Asante has confirmed he has been made aware of the interest from Sundowns.

“My agent confirmed that Sundowns have shown interest in me, and they have again written to my club Mazembe for my services,” Asante told Football411.

“It feels good to know certain clubs are interested in me, but all that I have to do is to keep calm and do what I have to do on the pitch for now, so let’s see what comes out of the negotiations.

“I personally know it will be a big blow for my current club if I leave, but that is football; you can’t stay at one club forever.

“I am just hoping everything goes as planned, because if it comes through I will not even think twice.”

Asante will be joining a host of Ghanaian players in South Africa once the deal is sealed.

The skilful winger has gathered a lot of information about Sundowns which is stirring up interest in the move.

“I spoke to some of their (Sundowns’) players when they came to Ghana for their pre-season and they looked a very formidable side that is capable of challenging for laurels in all competitions in South Africa and even on the African continent,” he continued.

“I have a lot of friends who play in SA, as we know most of my old mates during my days in Ghana and even those I played against are currently in SA.

“I know the country very well because I played for Ghana during the CHAN and the Champions League for Berekum Chelsea when we played against Pirates, so settling down and playing well for Sundowns won’t be a problem for me.”
