Following the hullabaloo that characterized the Black Stars during the FIFA 2014 World Cup; one would have thought the Sports Ministry would take a cue from the criticisms and accusations that were hurled at the former Sports Minister, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and his cohort.
But to Patrick Osei Agyemang, affectionately called Countryman Songo, the Ministry and the nation's leaders appear to be taking Ghanaians for a ride.
Speaking on "Kokrokoo" on Peace FM, Countryman Songo lashed out at the new Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga, his Deputy Vincent Oppong Asamoah and politicians in the country for keeping mute over the budget for the Black Stars in the ongoing AFCON.
Countryman Songo wondered why the Minister has failed to disclose the budget for the Black Stars and to him; the Ministry wants to embezzle the funds.
Though admonishing the Minister not to repeat the "mistakes" of the previous Sports administration, he however hoped Hon. Ayariga doesn't superintend over another case of financial misappropriation.
“Fire burn him, Ayariga [Sports Minister]. He will also tell you that come to my office; there’s a lot to it, I want to explain to you. Explain what? What is the budget?...Some people want to embezzle the money. Is it their money? I’m asking Hon. Sports Minister Ayariga and his deputy. Is it their money?”
Countryman Songo further fired salvoes at Ghanaians for not making demands on the government to print out the budget for the players.
Quoting a popular phrase from President Mahama, he exclaimed; “Short-memory Ghanaians, we’re too much miserable…We seem to have forgotten about the occurrences at Brazil…We forget things quickly. Just recently at Brazil, we tarnished the image of Ghana.”
