An executive member of the Ghana Football Association(GFA), Kofi Manu

has claimed that, the Ghana FA sponsored the Black Stars of Ghana for

the 2015 Afcon tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

The loud-mouth football administrator revealed that the then youth and

sports minister, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, sent a letter dated 15th

January, 2015 to the GFA requesting for the pre-financing of the 2015

Nations Cup in an amount worth 1.7million USD.

Mr. Manu popularly known as "Blue Boy" in the Ghanaian football circle

indicated that his outfit paid heed to the minister's call due to

their cordial relationship between them.

However, the vociferous GFA member has stated that the current sports

minister, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has no cause to complain as they can

equally do same this time round.

"This is not the first time the sports minister is facing challenges

regarding financial problems," he told Kumas-based radio station Ahoto

FM, "

"There has been some mutual understanding between the Ghana FA and the

sports minister in funding a project or other things involving

expenses," he added.

He continued: "Let me reveal this to you today that in 2015, the then

sports minister, Hon. Mahama Ayariga sent us a letter requesting for

the financing of the 2015 Afcon by the Ghana FA,"

"In that letter, the minister demanded an amount of 1.7 million USD

from the FA to be used in financing the Afcon tournament in Equatorial

Guinea. And with the promise of refunding the money, the GFA paid heed

to the minister's request and gave out that money,"

"In fact, the meeting took place in the chief of staff's office in

2015 and as I'm speaking to you now; the ministry has not paid back

the amount to the Ghana FA ."
