Mr. L.O. Laryea, Chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana, has pledged that the standard of officiating soccer matches will see a remarkable improvement in the next football season.

Speaking to GNA Sports on Tuesday, he said there is going to be refresher courses for all referees before the commencement of the next football season.

Mr. Laryea said the association has record of most of the errors some of the referees are found of making in interpreting the rules of the game and these would form the basis of the refresher courses.

He said the course would also take care of protection of players under the rules of modern football game adding that there were cases of exceptionally bad handling of matches due to misinterpretation of the rules while others could be pardoned for human error on the part of match officials.

Touching on security for referees at league centres, he said every effort should be made to ensure that referees are given adequate protection at all centres, especially, at fields that have no rpt no inner perimeters.

He said unlike centres in Accra, Kumasi and Obuasi, all other league centres have no such facilities and this enables home fans to evade the playing field at any moment especially when things are not going well for them.

Mr. Laryea appealed to football clubs to educate their fans on the rules of the game, especially the offside rule, so that they do not falsely accuse referees of being bias against their clubs.
