Stars drop to 16th position

Accra, March 9, GNA - Ghana's Black Stars dropped one place to the 16th position in the latest world ranking released by world soccer governing body, Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA).

The Stars on 931 points lost nine points, despite beating neighbours Togo 4-1 in an international friendly last month in Antwerp, Belgium, but maintained their status as the best ranked team on the continent.

Information gathered by GNA Sports reveals that Japan edged out the Stars from their previous position as the 15th best ranked team in the world last month.

The Stars however are the only African side in the top 20, with Cote d'Ivoire closest on 25th position on 824 points. African champions, Egypt dropped two places to the third place on the continental rankings on 685 points, with Nigeria (609 points), Burkina Faso (605 points), Cameroon (580 points), Guinea (569 points), Tunisia (568 points), South Africa (566 points) and Algeria (539 points) making up the 10-best teams on the continent.

Meanwhile, Argentina overtook Brazil as the best ranked team in South America and fourth in the world, with Spain, Netherlands and Germany maintaining their places at first, second and third respectively.

England, Uruguay, Croatia, Portugal and Greece complete the world's top 10 teams.
