Former Black Stars goalkeeper, Leonard Moffat, has
revealed that the Ghana Football Association(GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and
Sports needs to appoint a competent and world class coach to head the Black
Stars technical team as the country searches for Milovan Rajevac’s replacement.
In an interview with Simon Darko Agyare, in Columbus, Ohio, USA, over the
weekend during the Ghanaian community sports festival, Leonard Moffat, made it
known that the current Stars team has gained the status of a world class team
and therefore needs a competent and world class coach to continue from where
Milovan Rajevac left.
Moffat believes coach Milovan Rajevac has left a standard that will require an
experience hand to continue from where he left as well as qualify the team to
their third appearance at the prestigious FIFA World Cup.
He said Ghana cannot afford to miss the boat to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil
after showing the entire football world what they are made of as they performed
gallantly in the last World Cup in South Africa.
“After playing so well in both the Germany and South Africa World Cup, we need
to make a third straight appearance in Brazil and that I believe an be achieved
if officials appoint the right man for the job” he said.
According to him, the current team posses of quality players who feature in
respectable league across Europe, something that was missing during his era with
the Stars as goalkeeper and that he claims also needs a world class trainer to
handle the players.
He also showered praise on current Stars goalie Richard Kingson for his
outstanding performance with the Ghana team in both the Germany and South Africa
World Cup in 2006 and 2010 respectively.
“He was with us in South Africa in 1996 for the Africa Cup of Nations as a young
goalkeeper and I think he has been loyal and committed to the national team. He
also exhibited outstanding performance in the two World Cup he has featured in
and he deserves a praise” he said.
Touching on the current GFA, the goalie nicknamed ‘Moffaatoe‘ during his heroic
days with Hearts of Oak as the safest pair of hands in the Phobia camp, was
quick to shower praise on the current GFA officials, claiming they deserve a
huge praise for qualifying the team to two World Cup appearance in a role.
He also praised the GFA, for handing the likes of Kuuku Dadzie, Frimpong Manso,
Kwesi Appiah and Sellas Tetteh, all former national Stars the opportunity to
head some of the national soccer teams.
Moffat, who featured for Ghana’s city rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and Accra Great
Olympics in the Ghana Premier League now heads the goalkeeping department of
Columbus Soccer Academy, in the United States.
However, in his quest to handle some of the national teams in the near future,
Leonard Kpakpo Moffat is currently pursuing his third Coaching License
Certificate in the USA.
