KOTOKO CLEARED

Stay Cool Professionals crumbled badly but expectedly with a tacit withdrawal of their protest case against Kumasi Asante Kotoko after submitting that they were no longer eager in prosecuting the case against the eligibility of Michael Asante to play in the Kinapharma Premier League.

They withdrew the case at the last minute on the grounds that they did not have the evidence to fight the case after lead protestors Great Olympics, on whose backs Stay Cool were expected to ride in prosecuting their own case, withdrew last week.

Olympics withdrew the case claiming that Kotoko could have a strong and successful defence while lawyers conversant with the FA regulations thought the withdrawal was influenced by a desire not to attract any financial penalties. Stay Cool were largely expected to follow suit, but could not do so immediately because, according club representatives, their counsel had been taken ill.

Yesterday representatives of Kotoko comprising lawyers and club officials lined up at the FA offices ready to do battle only to be told that Stay Cool had earlier in the day submitted a letter abandoning the case altogether.

With this development Kotoko can now confidently begin the celebrations for a premier league success even with the two more games left after building a seven-point lead over closest Accra Hearts of Oak.

It is however not too clear if the in-form Michael Asante would feature in either of the two remaining league matches. He was in the stands on Sunday when his mates battled city rivals King Faisal to a 1:0 win.
