Sports Minister Dr. Mustapha Ahmed has paid glowing tribute to Stephen Appiah for his selfless dedication to Ghana through football and his philanthropic deeds.
The 34-year-old is having a testimonial match being organized in his honour on June 27 by primeval Media.
The testimonial match, which would feature several Black Stars players and football stars around the world, would serve as a befitting sending off for the former Ghana captain.
Appiah remains a cult figure in Ghana not only for his dedication to the Black Stars but also for his philanthropic deeds in several communities – especially in Chorkor where he hails.
Sports Minister Dr. Mustapha Ahmed believes the time is right for the nation to show appreciation for Appiah’s immense contribution to the nation by offering massive support during his testimonial match.
“Stephen Appiah’s contribution to football in Ghana can never be underestimated,” the Sports Minister said at the event’s grand launch on Monday. “He was an inspiration to many especially the youth in Ghana.
“His contribution was not only limited to football, we all know the various philanthropic activities he undertook in Chorkor.
‘He is therefore worth celebrating.”
Participants in the testimonial game – most of whom are easily recognizable football stars – will be hosted to an A-listed dinner at the State Banquet Hall in Accra on the eve of the testimonial match.
