Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic insists his decision to pick John Boye over Derek Asamoah is purely based on technical grounds.
The Serbian trainer decided to make the Renne stopper an addition to his well-stocked central defensive unit as against a fourth striker especially with the uncertainty surrounding the availability of Asamoah Gyan.
However amidst rumours of a conspiracy by Ghana FA Protocol Officer, Alex Asante to have the Korean-based Asamoah ditched out of the squad over passport issues, Stevanovic in offering a staunch defence indicated the decision was purely technical and nothing more.
“I explained about to Derek Asamoah that we had a problem with defence,” he said.
“Vorsah is out for two games, some players are always injured just before a month and we cannot risk to stay without enough defenders.
“That is the only reason unique reason I dropped Derek. It’s a good, good reason. I explained to Derek and he understood”, Stevanovic said.
The Black Stars play its final warm-up game against PSL side Platinum Stars on Wednesday before flying to Gabon two days later ahead of the Group D Nations Cup opener with Botswana on January 24.
