Strikers' hunt reality show to roll out soon

Accra, June 19, GNA - A reality show to hunt for strikers will soon be rolled out within Ghanaian soccer circles.

The show dubbed "Ghana Goal Hunt" would target at persons between the ages of 16 to 23 and is aimed at solving the prevailing goal scoring problems currently engulfing Ghana football At a media interaction on Wednesday, former Black Stars striker Ebo Mends, the brain behind the initiative said the project is aimed at unearthing talents and potential strikers for the various national teams.

Ebo Mends said the project which has the backing of past footballers and technical brains including Reverend Osei Kofi, Dan Owusu and Emmanuel Kwesi Afranie will be nursed and brought to the fore so that strikers would at all levels deliver the goals with ease and enviable skills.

The former striker who is credited with the rise to fame of certain national stars like Sulley Ali Muntari and Haminu Draman explained that the project which will last for six weeks will begin with an initial 200 contestants drawn across the country, made up of 20 from each of the regions.

"After the first stage, the contest will continue with series of eviction to prune down the number 50 finalists who will be expected to exhibit their goal scoring talents through the technical tests of technical resource persons."

The exercise includes positioning of footballs at various goal scoring positions of which a striker with the best conversion rate will be declared winner.

The former Asante Kotoko striker said the project has the capacity to solve the goal scoring problems which has been a major impediment in the rise of soccer in the country.

"We need strikers, world class strikers and it is time we take the bull by the horn instead of pretending all is well." Coach Afranie, head coach of national U-17 team, the Black Starlets lauded the idea as being timely and assured of his support. Emmanuel Nuworzah, the Project Manager appealed to corporate institutions and organizations to support the project which is geared towards developing world class strikers for the country. The official launch is expected to take place in the next few weeks, with the winner assured of a two-week trial with a Danish first division club.
