...Mensah sees red; Mutari Injured; Gyan Flops

Ghana's Sunderland contingent endured a miserable re-union with Uruguay's Luis Suarez against Liverpool in the English Premier League on Sunday.

John Mensah was sent off at the Stadium of Light for pulling back Suarez late on as they lost 0-2 while midfielder Sulley Muntari lasted only 20 minutes after he picked up an Achilles injury in the opening half.

Asamoah Gyan meanwhile cast a frustrating figure for much of the game and starved of services as Luis Suarez stole the show with a fine second for visitors.

Much of the hype in the build up to the centered Suarez' role in Ghana's World Cup quarter-final defeat at the hands of Uruguay and how the Ghanaian trio in the Sunderland side will respond.

Gyan's handshake with Suarez was made without any eye contact but when it came to what matters the most, it was the Uruguayan who came out tops.

Ghana will now wait for word on the fitness of Sulley Muntari who went off with an Achilles injury on 19 minutes.

With a Nations Cup qualifier to come against Congo next Sunday and a friendly against England two days later, Ghana boss Goran Stevanovic will be hoping the injury is not a serious one.

Stevanovic will be hoping all three players report at the Ghana camp in good health for training in Nairobi ahead of that qualifier.

Also due to report in Nairobi is the Udinese pair of Kwadwao Asamoah and Emmanuel Agyemang Badu.

Asamoah played the full game as Udinese beat Catania 1-0 to up their push for a place in Europe.

But while Asamoah was keeping active ahead of international duty, the other member of the Black Stars called up for those two games Agyemang Badu was watching from the stands.
