Super Zonal final match ends abruptly

Cape Coast, Aug, 20, GNA - The finals of the Central Region Division II Super Zonal match between Elmina Sharks and Dunkwa United played at the Robert Mensah stadium on Thursday ended abruptly in the 80th minute.

At the time of the incident, the scores were 1-1 at par.

Trouble sparked off when Assistant Referee I.W.K Arthur, signaled for infringement in the Elmina Sharks vital area indicating a penalty.

As soon as the central Referee, Peter K. Aidoo placed the ball in the penalty box for the kick to be taken, goalkeeper Shaibu Ibrahim led some of the playing body of Elmina Sharks to attack and beat up the Assistant Referee.

When the few Police officers at the stadium tried to intervene the players of Elmina Sharks engaged them in a free for all fight for about ten minutes.

The Police did however make any arrest.

Meanwhile the Chief Executive of Dunkwa United have appealed to the Regional Football Association to declare them winners and promote them to Division One since it was Elmina Sharks who caused the abrupt end of the match.

Mr Bright Droefenu, Chief Executive of Elmina Sharks attributed the unfortunate incident to bad officiating and called for a replay of the match.
