Superstition? Power FC Chairman debunks assertion

Accra, Nov 7, GNA - Power FC, one of the Premier League Clubs noted for its tough character and mostly seen among the top ranks at the beginning of every season, is this time around wallowing in the relegation zone after nine matches in the premiership.

The woes of the Club have been linked to superstition as it is believed the absence of one coach, 'T.T.' on the technical bench and the recruitment of Amui Quaye who is on record to have played for some relegated clubs in the country, is affecting the fortunes of the troubled club.

Power FC is stuck at the bottom of the league table with five points after nine matches.

Mr Emmanuel Adotey, Chairman of Power FC told the GNA Sports that he has on countless occasions received anonymous text messages and calls requesting for the recall of 'coach T.T.' as well as the sacking of Quaye or the Club will be relegated.

One of the messages was sent a day after the Club lost 0-3 to Real Tamale United (RTU) and reads 'call back coach TT or the team will be relegated'.

Mr Adotey however debunked these assertions when he spoke to the Club back on track.

According to the Chairman, the performance of the Club has nothing to do with superstition or the recruitment of any particular player but rather due to the absence of coach Bashiru Hayford at the commencement of the season.

Mr Adotey said coach Hayford was absent from the camp of the Club for almost four months when the League began as he was then in charge of the national Under-17 team, the Black Starlets.

He said even though they granted the coach the permission to take up the national assignment, they expected him to join the team at training at least on Thursdays and Fridays ahead of every game match but this was not the situation, hence the poor performance of the team so far. The Chairman said the Club then had no option than to dispose off of his services and look elsewhere for another technical brain. He however added that, 'I don't believe TT has any hand in the anonymous calls or text messages because we parted ways with him peacefully and on his volition.'

He explained that the said coach TT requested for a move to relegated Kade Hotpurs 'and all his entitlements have since been settled.'

On Quaye, Mr Adotey said the player is yet to kick a ball for the Club since he joined them and wondered why people should attribute the dwindling fortunes of the Club to the player.

He described Quaye as a brilliant player who should rather be encouraged instead of attempts being made by some faceless individuals to derail his career.

He revealed that plans are far advanced to recruit a top notch coach who had an extensive playing career in Ghana and vast experience in coaching to augment the technical team.

The Chairman said the Club has finished studying the curriculum vitae of the coach and they are in discussion with him for a possible deal.

He also announced that the playing body will undergo some form of transformation and players who perform below expectation at the end of the first round will find their way out.

Mr Adotey expressed the hope that the measures being put in place will help revive the fortunes of the Club adding 93Power will surely bounce back.=94
