Sunyani, (B/A) Jan. 20, GNA - Supporters of Tano Boafoakwa charged on Kumasi-based Class One Referee Boniface Awuolo in their "Zone 1B" Division One Polytank midweek soccer league match against visiting Bechem United at the Sunyani Coronation Park in what they perceived to be a biased officiating immediately he whistled for the end of the match.
The match ended in a goalless draw but the Bofoakwa layers and supporters argued most of the referee's decisions as they claimed he denied them of several goal-scoring chances both in the first and second halves of the match, thus preventing their side to win the day. Consequently some of the supporters of the home team rushed onto the playing field soon after the end of the match to confront the referee as to what they described as some unfamiliar decisions against them, including two clear penalties committed by Bechem United in each half of the match and which the referee refused to award them. However the few policemen at the Park managed to guard the referee and his assistcants - J. K. Rockson from Obuasi and Prosper Avenor from Kumasi to safety as they locked the main entrance to prevent any violence or attacks.
The security measures did not however deter the aggrieved home supporters from following in their numbers to gather at the stadium gates shouting.
With the split points result of the match, Bechem United have topped the zonal league with 10 points with Bofoakwa remaining at the bottom with three points. 20 Jan. 11
