Accra, Feb. 1, GNA - The Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC) has congratulated the national football team, the Black Stars for qualifying for the quarterfinals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana 2008. It said; "organized labour and indeed all working people of Ghana had followed with keen interest and admiration the effort, dedication and the sense of patriotism exhibited by the Black Stars in the tournament".
Mr Kofi Asamoah, Acting Secretary-General of the TUC, in a press release said the TUC assured the team of its continued support and goodwill and urged all citizens not only to rally behind the Black Starts but also to sustain the unity that the victory had brought to the country.
"In particular, we are thrilled by the dexterity with which the Stars disposed of the Atlas Lions of Morocco, which ensured Ghana's qualification. That victory was as important for the national psyche and the fact that it came sweet added to its significance". The statement said it was the hope that the unity would be carried forward especially "as we prepare for the crucial Elections in December" which should be considered as a national project to advance the development of the country.
It said: "Even as we support our various political parties we should endeavour to rally round the national flag and put Ghana ahead of all other considerations".
It wished the Stars 'Ayekoo' and urged them to go ahead to realize the dreams as workers of Ghana were solidly behind them.
