Tetteh sees open contest in Group B

Ghana Under-20 national team head coach, Sellas Tetteh, is now envisaging an "open" contest in Group B of the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Tetteh's summation of their group stems from the opening matches which saw Ghana battle back from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Autria while Panama surprisingly rallied to a 2-2 draw with Argentina.

The Ghana coach now knows that his men face "a tricky match against Argentina" and is hoping they could pull off a win on the South Americans.

"Everything is now open in our group after the first two games both ended in draws. Next up is a tricky match against Argentina, which we can hopefully win," Tetteh said after the match.

The former Liberty Professionals coach described their opening match against Austria as "very difficult" but acknowledged it is typical to undergo such test in the first game of a major tournament.

He admitted that the Austrians put up a "really strong performance" against the Black Satellites.

The 58-year-old Ghana coach said the performance of the Austrians just underscores the quality of a team that qualified to play in the World Cup.

"It was a very difficult game for us, but the first match in a tournament is always tough and it takes a while to find your rhythm. Congratulations to Austria for a really strong performance; it was clear that this team has plenty of quality. Having said that, it didn’t surprise me as every side that qualifies for a World Cup has earned the right to be here," Tetteh said.

The Austrians took the lead through Bernd Gschweidl before Yaw Yeboah levelled matters for Ghana at the death from the spot.

The Black Satellites will go up against Argentina in their next game at the Wellington Regional Stadium on June 2.
