....83rd in the world; 18th in Africa
Ghana continued to fall in world rankings when it dropped a further three places down the ladder in the monthly world football rankings by world football governing body FIFA released Wednesday.

In the March edition of the FIFA ranking Ghana dropped from 80th to 83rd behind countries like Libya, Guatemala, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago and China PR.

The February ranking had Ghana dropping from 79th position to 80th.

Ghana, four times African champions still lag behind Zimbabwe who made their debut at the African Cup of Nations this year.

The dip by Ghana in the overall world ranking corresponds with a fall in its ranking on the African continent.

Ghana moved two steps down from the16th place it occupied in the February ranking to the 18th position.

Dethroned African champions, Cameroon are still ranked as the best African side despite failing to retain their African crown at the African Nations Cup. Nigeria who placed third in tournament are second in the ranking, one place above Senegal who could only reach the quarterfinal stage.

Tunisia who by virtue of their triumph at the African Cup of Nations moved up 14 places in the world ranking to 31 in the February ranking have dropped one step down to the 32nd spot in the world but still maintain their fourth position in Africa.

The FIFA ranking is done based on the performance of countries in international competitions and friendlies. Ghana?s absence from the African Nations Cup of course has contributed to her inability to accumulate points.
