Ghanaian William Tiero and his new Portuguese top flight side Gil Vicente have set the stage for a cracker of a league game when they face giants Sporting Club du Portugal better known as Sporting Lisbon on Monday.
Tiero and his new club travel to the capital for the Primera Liga Match Day 4 fixture unbeaten even though they are also chasing a first win, having drawn all opening 3 games. Ghanaian Tiero looks set to start after making substitute appearances in their last two games.
But hungrily waiting for Vicente are Sporting Lisbon who have taken just two points from a possible nine and are desperate for a win. Sporting have lost their only home game in the league so far in 2012/13 0-1 to Rio Ave. They also failed to hit the target in last Thursday’s 0-0 draw with Swiss side Basel in the UEFA Europa League, also at home. But Portuguese media reports monitored by www.sportsinghana.com indicate that Tiero’s re-launched career in the Portuguese league has got the Gil Vicente faithful buzzing after seeing the Ghanaian take to the field for the first time last league game against Victoria Setubal before also featuring in the League Cup a week later against Naval 1 de Maio.
Keen to impress Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah for a possible Black Stars recall, Tiero has settled in well at Vicente working and battling hard in midfield and is apparently raring to go against Sporting. Monday night at the Estadio Jose Avalade in Lisbon could be his moment to state his case against one Europe’s biggest football clubs.
