Accra, Feb 22, GNA - The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has for the second time postponed the 2006 edition of the Top Four Competition following requests from the participating clubs. The competition, which was originally scheduled for February 9, was postponed to February 25.

Information gathered by the GNA Sports reveals that the tournament has now been scheduled for March but the organizers are yet to confirm the actual date for the commencement of the competition. Mr Joseph Yaw Appiah, Chairman of the GHALCA told the GNA Sports that the postponement was due to requests from the Clubs who said that notice for the start of the tourney was too short.

He said the clubs therefore requested for enough time to prepare for the competition, adding that this will also allow the sponsors much time to advertise the event.

According to Mr Appiah, sponsors of the competition are to be given a two week period to advertise the event before its start hence the postponement will grant them that opportunity. Mr Appiah however did not confirm the date for the start of the event but information reaching GNA Sports indicates that the event is likely to kick start on March 12.

The Top Four Competition has for the past years being the most lucrative event on the local scene as it has offered clubs the opportunity to enhance their financial standing. Participating clubs have for the past years benefited from attractive appearance fees.

The tournament however seems to have lost some steam this year as the glamour and publicity that comes with it has not been forthcoming. The first four clubs in the 2006 Premier League will vie for the prestigious trophy this year.

They are Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Accra Hearts of Oak, King Faisal and Berekum Arsenals. Defending Champions, Kpando Heart of Lions will not participate since they could not secure a place in the first four teams at the end of last season.
