Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda has played down his heroics against Cape Verde which sent the Black Stars through to the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations which has seen him being chased by a couple of European clubs.
Dauda was named man-of-the-match in Saturday’s 2-0 quarter-final win in Port Elizabeth with his breathtaking saves.
The AshantiGold gloves man making his second Nations Cup appearance- has conceded two goals after four matches. The 27-year-old has justified why he deserves to be Ghana’s number one but he wants to be modest with his tournament form.
“I will say Allahamdullahi (Praise be to God), Allahamdullahi (Praise be to God),” Dauda replied to a question on whether he has secured the number 1 position
“It was a difficult one. You know we have very three good goalkeepers in the team and we have a lot of goalkeepers in the country both foreign and local. That is why we have the technical team. They chose me to start the games of this tournament. Not that am good than the other two goalkeepers, but in football everything is about selection and so I have to do my best to pay back the faith of the coach”.
Anderlecht as well as Stade Rennes and two Egyptian clubs are said to be closely on the heels of Dauda.
