Top Four clubs seeded

Accra, July 26, GNA - Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Accra Hearts of Oak, Liberty Professionals and King Faisal have been seeded by the Ghana League clubs Association (GHALCA) for the up coming Kinapharma Fine Life Blood Tonic special knockout competition.

The decision by GHALCA was based on the performance of the four clubs in the 2003 Premier League where they emerged as the first four clubs after the Premiership.

The competition, which is being organized by GHALCA with Kinapharma Ghana Limited, a major pharmaceutical company as the major sponsor with support from Shell Ghana Limited is scheduled to kick-start on Wednesday, August 4.

The special knock-out competition would be played on home and away basis.

Information gathered by the GNA Sports indicates that all the sixteen Premier League Clubs participating in the special tournament were on Monday presented 15 million cedis each for their preparations. According to the information, Shell Ghana Limited will also supply the participating teams with fuel for their travelling purposes. The organisers are also expected to announce more packages before the commencement of the tourney.

The association is expected to apply the vital away goal rule during the tournament, which is meant to keep the clubs in shape at the wake of the prolonged postponement of the 2004 Novelty league.

In case of a tie, the football lottery of penalty shootouts will be evoked to break the deadlock for the winner to be determined All the participating clubs, according to the GNA information have embraced the idea of benefiting from the gate proceeds instead of the in-famous home take all policy.

GHALCA took this initiative after this years' Premier League went on a two-month break in order to pave way for the Black Stars and the Black Meteors to prepare for their various national assignments.

Kotoko and Hearts are expected to use the tournament to prepare for their respective continental assignments, as they are billed to start campaigns in the league stage of the novelty Confederations Cup Competition on August 8, whilst the other clubs will use the opportunity to prepare for the resumption of the Premier League, which is expected to resume in September.
