The hugely-publicized arrival of Klaus Toppmoller in Accra has turned out to be a practical joke as the German was seen on TV last night doing Champions League analysis, Ghana’s leading football website, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

Toppmoller was on ZDF TV as a pundit analyzing the Uefa Champions League matches, to throw reports of his supposed arrival in the West African country into the dustbin.

Accra-based Oman FM claimed on Wednesday that the 62-year-old was in Accra at the invitation of an agent to hold discussions with the Ghana FA over the possibility of being appointed as the technical director of the Black Stars. It follows a publication by a Ghanaian portal that the German legend was being courted by the FA to become the technical director of the Black Stars if qualification to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil next year is sealed.

Despite persistent denials by the Ghana FA, the rumour mill is just refusing to wash away with daily twists and sometimes pedestrian arguments in the media over the supposed move to appoint the former Bayern Leverkusen man.

The latest news should put to rest all the conjecture that has dominated the major headlines in Ghana.

The Ghana FA has insisted the reports are calculated to disrupt coach Kwesi Appiah’s focus ahead of the second-leg of the World Cup play-off against Egypt on November 19.

The Ghanaians are the overwhelming favourites to secure passage to Brazil after hammering the Pharaohs 6-1 from the first leg, played in Kumasi last month.
