Tottenham are leading the race to sign Marseille forward Andre Ayew on a free transfer, sources have told ESPN FC.
Ayew, 25, is out of contract this summer and looks set to leave Marseille after rejecting the club’s offer of a new deal.
News of Ayew’s availability has prompted a host of clubs across Europe to make moves to try and lure the Ghana international away from the Stade Velodrome.
Everton and Newcastle have shown an interest in the striker, but Tottenham are hoping to win the race for his signature.
Ayew is currently free to discuss a switch with potential suitors and sources have told ESPN FC that Tottenham officials have held talks with the player’s agent.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is determined to bolster his attacking options for next season with Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado expected to move on in the summer and he has made Ayew one of his top targets.
Ayew has impressed for Marseille this season, scoring seven goals to boost their Ligue 1 title charge and he also caught the eye at the African Nations Cup in January where he netted three goals to help Ghana reach the final.
