Defending champions, Asante Kotoko, coasted home to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over visiting Liberty Professionals in a First Capital Plus Premier League Match Day 12 fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, on Sunday.
It was one match Kotoko demonstrated sheer resilience to keep at bay the marauding Liberty attack, who besieged the opponents’ goal area, firing from all angles with the belief to find the equalizer.
Ivorian import, Ahmed Toure, broke the deadlock as early as the third minute as he fired from a close range to beat Liberty goalie, Kwaku Stephen, after the defence committed a blunder.
Kotoko, buoyed by this goal, made some threatening moves to increase the tally, but lack of precision upfront would deny them from hitting the target.
Obed Owusu was the worst culprit, wasting some glaring chances in the 30th and 38th minutes which attracted the displeasure of newly-signed Coach, David Duncan.
Liberty commenced the second half a totally transformed side and with Tamimu Muntari leading the onslaught, the visitors kept the Kotoko defence working busily to protect the only goal of the match.
The Porcupine Warriors’ defence pivoted around Ahmed Adams and Abeiku Ainooson had to delve deeper into their experiences to prevent Liberty’s Muntari from causing havoc as he mounted series of incursions.
