Tournament is 38 goals short to equal 99 mark

The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations is 38 goals short of equalling the competition's record goal tally of 99 set during the 2008 edition hosted by Ghana.

After 24 matches, the tournament has produced 61 goals with eight matches remaining.


The all-time goals record of 99 in a total of 32 games was set four years.


Official statistics by Caf has confirmed that an average 2.5 goals per game has been recorded so far ahead of the quarter-final matches which begin on Saturday.


Also statistics have confirmed that Ghana are a goal away from their 100th in the Nations Cup history.
