US Philanthropist donates footballs to schools

Kumasi, April 7, GNA - Dr Steven Porter, a philanthropist from Utah, United States of America (USA), has donated 150 footballs valued at over 5000 dollars to Kind Clan Club (KCC), a Kumasi based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).

The footballs are to be distributed to over 15 selected schools and Orphanage Homes in the Ashanti Region to help promote sporting activities.

Mr Jamal Baba-Eeps, President of the KCC disclosed this in an interview with the GNA Sports in Kumasi.

He said the beneficiary schools includes Old Tafo Jaf Educational Complex, Azariyya Islamic Schools, Methodist Primary A and B Schools, St. Paul's Preparatory School, Moshie Zongo, Buorkrom M/A Primary School and Kumasi Children's Home.

Mr. Baba-Eeps said the philanthropist also has plans to assist in the establishment of a Sports Academy in Kumasi as his contribution towards development of sports in the country.

He extended his gratitude and appreciation to Dr Porter, the donor and Ms. Valeria Dan Sabah, an American-based nurse who solicited for the footballs and appealed to the beneficiary institutions to make judicious use of the gift. Mr Baba-Eeps said the KCC has been actively engaged in organizing sporting activities including gala competitions, netball, Ludo and other games for the youth to promote sports in the Kumasi Metropolis. He said the Organization has also established a Micro-Finance and "Susu" scheme to support its members with credit facilities to enable them expand their businesses and contribute meaningfully towards the socio-economic development of the country.
