The head coach of Ghana’s senior national team the Black Stars, Kwesi Appiah says the opening 2014 World Cup group game against the United States would be the most difficult match for the team.

He told Vox Africa that because Ghana has beaten the USA twice before, a lot of psychological work would be needed on the players to adequately prepare them

“For me the most difficult game would be the USA because we have beaten them twice. We need to psychologically work on the boys to get them prepared, because there could be traces of complacency that would need to be expunged ahead of that game.”

Appiah acknowledged the strength of Ghana’s other opponents in the Group, Germany and Portugal, adding that because all the 32 qualified nations deserve their places, there might be a few surprises at the World Cup.

“Germany is a good team and so is Portugal. The USA has been winning most of their games, and all the teams in Brazil are good. There will be a lot of surprises in the World Cup.”
