Accra, Sept. 13, GNA - Kwahu Old Tafo Ultimate Soccer Academy defeated Koforidua based Top Heroes 3-2 on penalties to win the Eastern Region Coca Cola U-17 Soccer Championship held at the Koforidua Stadium. The penalty result was as a result of both sides failing to win in a gruelling 90 minutes encounter which ended one all.
Ultimate Academy took home a giant trophy, GH¢400 and Coca Cola products for emerging as the over all champions of the competition, whilst Top Heroes also received a trophy, GHC¢350 and Coca Cola products, with the third-placed team taking home a plaque, GHC A2300 and Coca Cola products.
Frank Amo of Ultimate Soccer Academy won the 'Best Player' award of the Tournament and the 'Top Scorer' award whilst Douglas Ahenkorah of Frankfurt Academy emerged as the 'Discovery' of the tourney. Coach Micheal Dzidoe of Ultimate Soccer Academy was also voted 'Coach of the Tournament'.
Mr Baba Jamal, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister who performed the opening and closing ceremonies urged the players to remain disciplined in their career since it is the only route to success in football. He also congratulated the organisers for initiating such a laudable idea of bringing together the youth for such a tourney and that is in the right path to unearth more talents for the nation.
The Deputy Minister was honoured with a certificate by Mr Anthony Tweneboa, a rep from Coca-Cola Ghana Limited. The two-day exercise was preceded by a registration process under the supervision of Coach Francis Oti Akenten, CAF Technical Director at the GFA with assistance from former Ghanaian international Frempong Manso and ace coach E. K Afranie. The participating teams were Soccer Legends from Nsawam, Top Heroes- of Koforidua who replaced Asamankese Young Kotoko, Soccer Warriors, Apirede Great Wonders; Somanya, M.M Frankfurt Academy of Akwatia, King Faisal from Odumase, Young Diamonds also of Akwatia and Ultimate Soccer Academy from Kwahu Tafo. 13 Sept. 09
