VAT Service holds Walk to sensitize public

Accra, June 21, GNA - The Senior Staff Association of the VAT Service on Saturday undertook a Health Walk and Fun Games in Accra to create public awareness on the need to honour tax obligations. The Walk and the Games which were under the theme 'Healthy Hearts for Improved Revenue Mobilization' started from the VAT Office at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle through Alajo to Tesano through Achimota and ended at the Lincoln School Complex at Abelemkpe.

Mr Anthony Ewereko Minlah, Commissioner of VAT Service praised members of the Association for their initiative. He said a sound mind in a sound body was vial for economic growth and development and that without good health the officers would not be fit to collect needed tax for the country. Mr Minlah said sports plays a very important role in the socio-economic development of the nation and that it should be embraced by all. He entreated on the public to take active interest in sports so that they would remain healthy at all times.

Members of the Association later engaged in sporting activities such as Soccer, Volleyball, Ampe, Oware, Tug-of-War and Draughts. In the opening soccer match, a combined team of Local VAT Office comprising, Osu, Madina and Spintex Road defeated Head Office 4 - 3 on penalties.
