Vengeance On Stars Mind

Sat, 21 Jun 2008 Source: Chronicle

As Ghana’s Black Stars go into action this Sunday against their Gabonese counterpart, one thing is certain- vengeance will be the watchword for the Ghanaians. Having lost 0-2 to their Gabonese opponents in their Nations/World Cup qualifier in the first leg in Libreville barely a week ago, the signs are clear that the Stars are brimming with vengeance to pay the visitors back in their own coin.

The wounds of the Libreville debacle, which has seen the Stars FIFA ranking plummeting, are still fresh and will serve as enough moral booster to go past the visitors to recover their lost pride. And for Stars caretaker coach, Sellas Tetteh, Sunday’s game offers him another chance to erase the doubts in the minds of his critics, due to the Libreville fiasco, about his competence regarding the Stars’ coaching job. In like manner, the playing body, aware of what an emphatic win will do as far as this game is concerned, appear resolute to go the extra mile to consolidate their lead on the Group 5 standings.

The return of Gabriel Issah Ahmed and the invitation of young John Boye are expected to add bite to the Ghanaian rear to apply the brakes on Gabon’s not-too-impressive front liners.
