Greek side Veria FC say they are lost on an imminent friendly encounter with Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko on January 3 as disclosed by organisers of the game Pacific Football Ghana Limited.

The Super League team have been lined up as replacement for Romanian outfit Petrolul Ploiesti, who were earlier scheduled to play the Porcupine Warriors as part of the 23-time Ghana champion’s 80th anniversary celebrations.

On Friday, Eric Oppong Yeboah, the chief executive officer of Pacific Football Ghana Limited confirmed in a radio interview that the friendly has been finalised for January 3 following approval by the Ghana Football Association.

“It’s not true that we are coming to play on January 3,” a representative addressed as Veria’s communications director was quoted as saying by Boss FM.

“We are planning to come to Ghana but it is not something official. For January, it will be difficult for us because we have official league games and cup matches slated around the same time, so we are planning to come [to Ghana] in February or March

“We are discussing with the club [Kotoko] and we will decide the date for the friendly game in the near future, but it will be difficult for us to come on January 3.

“We have an official [league] game on January 2 and the cup match is on the 5th of January.”

Kotoko were initially scheduled to play Veria on November 15 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi but the game fell through due to Ghana’s 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier with Comoros at same venue two days later.

On Tuesday, Veria manager Georgios Georgiadis was quoted as saying by a local media that the club were unaware of the new date.
