They are two of the most popular players on MLS rival teams.
But bet you didn’t know just how much New York City FC’s Kwadwo Poku and the New York Red Bulls’ Lloyd Sam had in common.
Neither did they until just a few months ago.
Now a national TV audience is about to find out.
Poku and Sam, who both share Ghanaian heritage and also made their international debuts for the Black Stars at the same time, are the subject of a special documentary – “Gotham to Ghana” – to air in primetime on FS1 on Thursday night (8 pm ET).
The film follows Poku and Sam from the Big Apple all the way back to Ghana, where they make the emotional journey to rediscover their childhood roots together.
Just days later, Poku and Sam will be heated rivals in a Heineken Rivalry Week match at Yankee Stadium, where New York City FC and the New York Red Bulls will lock horns in the in the first-ever MLS game on the FOX broadcast network (3 pm ET).
