Accra, August 5, GNA - The West Africa Football Union (WAFU)
has postponed indefinitely the first ever Women's Championship. The championship was expected to take place from Saturday, August
15 to Saturday, August 29, 2009 in Nigeria. Aka Malan, General Secretary of WAFU told GNA Sports that the
decision was taken due to organizational related problems. "We decided to push the tournament to another date due to problems
with sponsors. We are currently locked in negotiations with potential
sponsors and a deal should be reached within the next few days. "The tournament will surely come on, but we have to sort out
organizational issues before settling on a new date. "Two weeks from now, we hope to come out with a clear picture of
the tournament." Malan added that the venue of the tourney however still remains
unchanged. Ghana's Black Queens are paired in Group B alongside Sierra Leone,
Mali and guest participants, Tanzania for the zonal championships. Group A has African champions, Nigeria, Gambia, Guinea and Senegal.
