Ghana and Rubin Kazan midfielder Mubarak Wakaso has rubbished claims that the current crop of Black Stars players are selfish by insisting he will play for the nation even if its for free.

The 26-year-old midfielder is among the generation of Black Stars players who have been tagged as self centered and unpatriotic.

Opinions are divided since Ghana’s shameful world cup experience in Brazil where money had to be flown to pay players who had threatened to abandon their last group game against Portugal If their appearance fees were not paid.

But in Wakaso’s first full blown interview since the world cup in Brazil the former Espanyol midfielder says he will still be committed even if it means playing for free.

“Yes I will play for this nation for free but I guess the problem has always been that when you are promised something and you are not given that is a problem,” Wakaso told Accra based Citi-sports

“like every human being you get disappointed when people promise you and do not keep their word.”

“I am also certain that most of my colleagues will still give to this nation their all even if it’s for free.”

Wakaso is expected to play a key role when Ghana play Mauritius early next month in the AFCON 2017 qualifiers.
