We were well prepared for Austria, Yeboah

Ghana U-20 midfielder Yaw Yeboah has emphasised that the team was well prepared for their opener against Austria in the Fifa U-20 World Cup in New Zealand on Saturday, despite settling for a 1-1 draw.

The Black Satellites, who were tipped favoured to overcome the Europeans in Group B second match, toiled to level the score line after conceding a 50th minute goal through Austria’s Bernd Gschweidl.

The Manchester City midfielder, Yeboah, snatched the equaliser from the spot kick few minutes from fulltime, to save the 2009 U-20 World Cup champions from a chaotic start.

The result, considered by many Ghanaian fans as fair, had nothing to do with the team’s preparation, according Yeboah.

“Preparation for the game against Austria was perfect. We had good training sessions and we were psychologically fit,” Yeboah told Goal.

“People underestimated the Austrians, but we as players did not because we knew what they could do so we went all out for a win although we eventually had a draw. No team is a push-over at this level.”

Yeboah, who won the best player award at the 2015 African Youth Championship in Senegal earlier this year, believes the Satellites will improve in form as the tournament progresses.

“We are taking it game after game. We will surely excel in the tournament. I hereby call on all Ghanaians to back and pray for us.”

Ghana will face tournament top favourites Argentina while Austria will lock horns with Panama on Tuesday.
