Wes G’s Amon is first evictee of MTN Soccer Academy

The MTN Soccer Academy 6 Skuulz Challenge, witnessed its first Eviction last Sunday night in one of the most spectacular blends of soccer skills, music and entertainment at the plush MTN Soccer Academy House at Ridge in Accra.

The fun and excitement was, nonetheless, to be cut short for 18 year old Albert Amon of the Wesley Grammar SHS and his teeming fans, as the ‘Executioner’ finally announced the rather sad news of his eviction from the competition.

The news of Amon’s eviction from the Show, was received with shock from his enthusiastic supporters who could not lift up their heads anymore, but only bowed their heads in disbelief and disappointment. Amon’s mood and composure however seemed to contrast with that of his fans as he ran to them and raising his hands up and down, seemed to be telling them that all was not lost.

In an exclusive interview, the eighteen year old student of Wesley Grammar Senior High School was grateful to the organizers of the Show, Optimum Media Prime and its title sponsors, MTN, for giving him what he described as a “golden opportunity” to hone his soccer talent. “For me, the most important thing about my participation in this Soccer Reality Show was not just about my desire to win, but the learning and experiences I have acquired from it. This, I believe will take me very far in realizing my dream of becoming a soccer star,” Amon revealed.

Making a general assessment of Amon’s performance, Head Coach of the Soccer Academy, Herbert Addo, revealed that the player was relatively good with the ball and also a good dribbler. He, however, noted that Amon would need a great deal of tactical discipline and one-on-one coaching to help him develop his skills.

“Amon is quite a good player, but needs a lot of coaching to develop the vital qualities that a player needs to make it to the very top of his career,” Coach Addo said.

In a keenly contested five- a-side game between Team MTN and Team OMP, the team mates displayed splendid soccer prowess which earned them the applause of the numerous fans and spectators in the stands who were obviously impressed by their performance. The match ended in a 2-2 draw. The Eviction night was not without its characteristic side attraction of entertainment, as patrons of the Show were treated to thrilling musical performances by two of Ghana’s music icons, FBS and D-Blaq who kept the audience on their feet dancing and singing along to their indulging tunes. The night was also one that saw people from diverse backgrounds including the arts, business and the diplomatic corps, who had all come to unwind and strike acquaintances.

The night also witnessed Abou Bawa, team mate # 4, of Wa Senior High School, emerge as the new Captain for the team. With the commencement of the Eviction Series, one can imagine that the competition will even get keener than before, as each of the remaining team mates will obviously do all they can to put up their best performance whilst hoping that their fans keep voting massively for them. The next eviction will come off this Sunday at the MTN Soccer Academy House and will be telecast live on Metro TV.
