1st February 2003 was a day set by the Life-Patron and Owner of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football Club, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to settle the impasse between the club’s Board of Directors and Management but Nana ended up dissolving both parties as they showed in the King’s presence that they were incompatible.
The meeting, which started at 11:00am according to close sources at Manhyia was to be used to settle differences, redefine roles and replace some members on the Board who had communicated their intentions to Otumfuo of not carrying on anymore.
Network Herald sources at Manyhia reveal that Messrs John Taylor and Acheampong Kyei were going to be replaced by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II after they had informed the club owner of their decisions.
But when Nana set the stage for both heads of board and management to state their cases about their stewardship and the impasse, which had resulted to accusations and counter-accusations, they again went at each other’s throats in Nana’s presence.
The source hinted that both heads started exchanging words accusing each other’s personality. The Otumfuo is said to have looked on for sometime before shutting both men down.
Immediately after shutting them down, Nana who had not planned to dissolve the two bodies did the unexpected by dissolving both Board and Management.
After the dissolution of both parties, Nana directed them not to issue any press statements.
The Network Herald source said that, the dissolution of the Board and Management and the unplanned setting up of an Interim Management Committee was the reason why the Otumfuo had to consult some chiefs about the formation of the IMC and the personalities who were to constitute it.
The source stated that both men were expected to apologise to the Asantehene about their actions.
