Accra, Oct 8, GNA - Sekondi Eleven Wise will make a triumphant entry into the elite division of Ghana football next season after a decade absence after they chalked a 2-0 victory over Samartex of Samreboi in their Zone Two Middle League clash on Wednesday at the El-Wak Stadium, Accra.
Goals from Winfred Dormon and Jeff Aryeh were all the "Western Show Boys" needed to confirm their place in next season's premiership. The result saw Wise finish as winners of the four-club table on nine points, followed by Samartex, Norchip and West Ham in that order.
The game which was watched by hundreds of fans of Eleven Wise including Minister of Trade, Industry and Presidential Special Initiatives and Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Papa Owusu-Ankomah, both teams had fair chances of qualifying but it was the Sekondi-based side which made the best of their opportunities. Wise, a pioneer club in Ghana football needed just a point to go through but their performance in the opening minutes was contrary to the zeal of their fans as Samartex took the game to them. Samartex appeared ordinary in front of goal severally, allowing Wise to find their feet.
On 27 minutes, Great Olympics-reject Dormon opened the scores against the run of play with a bullet that beat Samartex goalie Ekow Ampiah after benefiting from James Bissue's pass. Eight minutes into the second half, Wise' British Coach, Edward Gallagher introduced Ayeh for Issah Alhassan and it yielded dividends four minutes later.
Ayeh connected from a corner-kick after he was left unmarked in the Samartex goal area.
The goal was greeted with shouts and chants of "Akaraka-chi," "Show, Show" amongst others by the Eleven Wise fans who could not hide their joy. Samartex fought back but their efforts were fruitless. The stadium went agog as officials of Wise, players and fans joined Papa Ankomah to celebrate the return of the once dreaded side back to the elite division.
