Italy triumph in Liverpool’s own World Cup
WITH World Cup fever mounting Liverpool hosted its own international festival of football this weekend.
The World in One City Community Cup saw a wide range of countries represented – from Algeria to Yemen.
Each of the teams playing in the knock-out competition boasted a number of players with origins in the country they were representing.
It was the first time in Britain international teams drawn from the local population have competed against each other.
The World in One City community sports festival was held at the City of Liverpool Soccer Centre in Walton Park.
The tournament was eventually won 1-0 by Italy. They beat Ghana in front of around 500 spectators.
