Yeboah's mother rallies support

Accra, Sept. 19, GNA - Mrs Comfort Yeboah, mother of ex-international star Anthony Yeboah has called on Ghanaians to rally behind the senior national team, the Black Stars in their quest to qualify for the South Africa 2010 World Cup and the African Cup of Nations tournaments.

She also urged the sporting public and the corporate world to contribute meaningfully towards the development of sports since the government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility. Mrs Yeboah made the call when a delegation of 'Add Your Voice Now', a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) championing the cause of Malaria Eradication Programme (MEP) through sports, called on her in Accra on Friday.

She said sports played a very important role in every aspect of human life and that without it there would be no development. Commenting on malaria issues, Mrs Yeboah tasked the Ghana Football Association to team up with the Ghana Health Service to disseminate more information on the disease to protect and save many more children whose talents could be unearthed for development of the country.

Mrs Yeboah appealed to soccer-loving fans to also join the crusade for its total eradication and to check the spread and prevention of the disease.

Mr Kwabena Osei Bonsu, Chief Executive Officer of the company who led the delegation, said the company has so far donated more than 2,000 treated mosquito nets free of charge to about 10 communities in the Greater Accra, Eastern, Ashanti and the Volta Regions.
