Zakkour rubbishes Ghana's title hopes

Ex-Hearts chief Harry Zakkour has dismissed Ghana’s hopes of winning the 2014 World Cup, claiming the current Black Stars squad is not good enough to challenge for world football’s biggest prize.

The Africans have been touted as one of the few sides that could pull a surprise at the global showpiece following their progressive outings in the last two editions.

Top stars like Sulley Muntari, Andre Ayew and Kwadwo Asamoah have spoken about the side’s quality to clinch the ultimate in the South American country but former Hearts chairman Harry Zakkour says its mission impossible.

“We must face reality and stop deceiving ourselves with empty high hopes. Why do we believe that Ghana can win this year’s World Cup? We don’t yet have what it takes to win it,” said

“For us to do so a lot of things must change”.

“If this is a way to put some confidence in our players, fine but we all know the honest truth is that we are not the kind of a team that can win this title this year.”

There are those who feel the Ghanaians will be a major threat to the ambitions of giants like host Brazil, Spain, Argentina and Holland amongst others.

But there are others who believe the team lacks the necessary depth to challenge for the historic title.

The Black Stars must first negotiate ties against USA, Germany and Portugal in group G before they can stat dreaming.
