Black Stars coach Bukhard Ziese has urged Bayern Munich defender Samuel Osei Kuffour to make up his mind quickly on whether he still wants to play for the Black Stars.
Ziese told JoyFM in an exclusive interview that he has written to the Bayern defender urging him to make up his mind on his international future.
Kuffour, who has not played for Ghana since being sacked from the team’s camp at the last nations cup turned down an invitation from Ziese to return to the side citing family commitments as the reason. But the Bayern defender also criticised the manner he was called up saying the coach could have spoken to him personally rather than send a simple fax. Kuffour also said he would make his return to the Stars for the nations cup qualifier against Uganda.
Ziese denied he never spoke to Kuffour personally. “I was the one who called him personally before I became Ghana coach and he even gave me his new mobile phone number. When we first invited him for the Tunisia tournament, he said he couldn’t come because of his family.
Then I revised the invitation to say he could come on Wednesday and leave immediately after the match. When we arrived in Frankfurk on Monday it had changed from family commitments to injury. I have many friends and when we checked, he was in training with his team. I have sent a stern, very stern letter to him via Bayern.
He must make up his mind whether he wants to play for Ghana or not. But as far as I am concerned, no player can decide which match he will play for the national team. Players get call up and then they decide whether they will play. And then it is up to me finally to decide whether I call them again.”
