Westham United manager Alan Curbishley has told Adom Sports that Ghanaian defender John Paintsil's inability to gain playing time in his first team does not mean he has a problem with him.

According to the manager, John Paintsil is a very good defender and that explains why he gives him time to play with the reserve team. He said "Paintsil is a good player and nobody has a problem with him, but it is very difficult for him to play since he is competing with the team's captain Lucas Neill for the same position".

The player has been criticised by a section of Ghanaians on why he does not play in the first team of his club but Curbishley was however not sure when Paintsil will play in the first team but quickly added that "I watched him play in Ghana's friendly against Senegal in London and I can assure you that he is very fit".

On the future of the player with Westham United, Alan Curbishely revealed that Paintsil has requested for a release on loan to one of the European clubs after him but "I have declined all the offers because I still need him and I'm happy with him", he explained.

John Paintsil is however expected to feature for the Black Stars in the upcoming 26th African Nations Cup in Ghana next year.
