Black Stars captain, Stephen Tornado Appiah has passed a medical at Tottenham Hotspurs, according to the Ghanaian BBC broadcaster, Ibrahim Saani Diara who is also a close friend to the international football star.

According tom Mr. Diara, Appiah has been undergoing a comprehensive medical and fitness check at the North London base of the club. “Doctors have been assessing his blood, heart and more importantly, the knee which has kept Appiah out of action for several months”.

At the moment, doctors have given him a clean bill of health and could be signed on much sooner than later, said Mr. Diara in an interview. “The only impediment now is his wage negotiations between Appiah’s agent and Tottenham Hotspur”.

Appiah is touted as the ‘messiah’ to take Spurs out of the clutches of relegation. Club Manager Harry Redknapp revealed early this week that he targeted Appiah when in charge of former club Portsmouth before opting to sign Sulley Muntari and he is now keen for another look at Appiah.

"I watched him an awful lot for Ghana - about six times - but I ended up taking Sulley Muntari because Juventus were asking £14million for Appiah," said Redknapp.

"Appiah was the captain of Ghana. He played in midfield with (Michael) Essien and Muntari - that was their midfield.

"He was a terrific player but had a bit of a problem with his knee - and he went to Turkey. But he is fine now; he's fit and looks okay.

Appiah has been without a club since leaving Turkish giants Fenerbahce in August but has now pitched up in North London. He’s expected to sign a contract which ends this season and may be extended if he impresses in the last haf of the 2008/2009 Barclays Premeir league season.
