Kaizer Chiefs have won the Vodacom Challenge for the second time in a row. Chiefs beat Ghana's Asante Kotoko 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out following a goalless stalemate in full-time in Durban.
Chiefs coach Mushin Ertugral said his team would now focus on winning the League championship next season.
"We want the League title next season and defending the Challenge has given the guys the morale boost they need.
"It takes time to build young players and I will need the experienced guys when we fight for the League," Ertugral said, who fielded mostly youngsters for the match.
Former Wits University player Stanton Fredericks played well with former Under-23 player Patrick Mbuthu in the middle, but at the beginning of the second half Ertugral replaced them with Sibusiso Sithole and Jos? Macamo respectively.
It was goalkeeper Brian Baloyi who became the hero — making two crucial saves after misses by Jabu Pule and Arthur Zwane.
The match was marred when two players from either side, Chiefs' Nzama and Asante's Osei Kwame, were involved in a brawl. They started punching each other and were both given red cards.
Chiefs' successful penalties were converted by Patrick Mabedi, Daniel Matsau and Macamo, while the two Asante goals were scored by Joe Hendricks and Joe Sam.
Baloyi pulled off saves against Louis Quainoo and Stephen Oduro, while Felix Yeboah missed when he shot wide.
The win gave Chiefs their first silverware this season after failing to defend the Bobsave Superbowl and narrowly losing the League to Orlando Pirates.
