PLANS ARE being set in place to construct a suitable stadium of international standard for the Eastern region. When completed, the stadium would be expected to boost the development of sports in the region.

Even without an adequate stadium, the region has not relented in contributing to sports development in the country. This is well displayed in the region’s participation in the local premier league championship.

At least, four football local premiership teams originated from the Eastern region. These are Dawu Young Stars, Okwawu United, Power FC and Suhum Maxbee.

The Eastern regional minister, Dr Francis Osafo Mensah, noted that the construction of the new stadium on international lines is in the pipe-line and that plans are on the drafting board for its successful and smooth commencement.

Dr Osafo Mensah disclosed that land has already been acquired at Oyoko, whilst work has to commence on the Nkawkaw playing field.

He hinted that a total of ?250 million has been voted this year for the rehabilitation work.
